Light Specialist Vehicle
Diverse roles on a single platform
In the advent of any warfare, high-technology, sophisticated and latest defence weapons are essential to make a nation well prepared to fight all the adversities. One such initiative was undertaken by Tata Motors - India's largest automobile manufacturing company. Tata Motors wanted to design and develop a Light Specialist Vehicle (LSV) for the Indian army that could be customised as per the evolving needs of the modern military forces to be used for direct engagement operations.
Tata Motors engaged Tata Elxsi to design the complete exterior and interior of this rugged vehicle.
Based on the stringent parameters defined by Tata Motors and the time constraints that was available, a rugged vehicle with minimal tooling had to be designed which had to be in line with the international standards. The vehicle had to be robust as well as work efficiently in challenging environments.
We designed a dependable and a highly mobile tactical wheeled vehicle which meets the latest Military standards. The vehicle was designed efficiently to ensure smooth movement during the theatre of war as well as during generic conditions. Moreover inherent in its design is the versatility that enables it to perform the major parameters of mobility, survivability, utility, maneuverability, maintainability, transportability, crew protection, stealth etc. as per the demands of modern military force. Also the LSV is fully dependable for providing protection to crew and is ideal for counter insurgency operations.
Minimal tooling has been used to design this complete vehicle by Tata Elxsi on an existing platform due to the short project timelines. The LSV was also built on the existing chassis.
This new range of tactical and armoured vehicles was displayed and launched at the Defence Expo 2008 and has received an encouraging feedback from the client and the defence fraternity. The vehicle is currently being tested by the Indian army across multiple terrains.
