In Mumbai over 11 million people travel by public transport daily of which more than 60 % commute by suburban railway networks. A better mode of transport was therefore needed to make daily travelling effortless.
Mumbai Monorail – India’s first monorail feeder service to connect to the mass transport systems was thus commissioned by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to address the issue of travel.
Keeping into account stringent budget constraints, we designed a contemporary multi-lingual wayfinding and information design based on five guiding design principles: clarity, simplicity, uncluttered, contemporary and consistency. The design approach ensured passengers feel efficient, safe and comfortable. The cost effective implementation also brings out a character of efficient system through use of crisp dynamic form in graphics.
This massive project can accommodate about 7,500 commuters per hour per direction and has the capacity to carry 1.5 to 2 lakh commuters daily.
